Tips for Writing an Abstract
- The main point of an abstract is to create an interesting summary of your work. However, the abstract should only be one paragraph (3-6 sentences), so it needs to be a focused piece of writing
- Emphasize the question you attempted to answer and your results. You will especially want to highlight any new or unexpected results.
- Consider someone searching the internet for your research, and what key words he or she would use to look for it. Make sure to include those key words in your abstract.
- Depending on your research question, you may or may not want to include specific numbers in your abstract. If the purpose of your research was to find a precise result you will certainly want to include the precision.
